How much does segment 2 cost in Michigan? ›

Classroom only: This format is typically scheduled over 3 days with 2 hours of in-person classroom instruction each day. Online + Classroom: Many of our Michigan locations offer a hybrid class format with 4 sessions, including 3 virtual classes and 1 in-person exam.

Segment 2 is a three day course, 2 hours each day for a total of 6 hours of classroom instruction. To take Segment 2, you must have held your level one license (permit) for three months or longer and completed 30 hours of driving (2 hours must have been done at night).

The state considers the student an adult. The requirements for 18 and older do not require you to do Segment 1 or 2. You will need to go to the SOS to get an Adult Temporary Instruction Permit which after having had for 30 days makes you eligible to take your Road Test.

Adult Driver Road Test

Applicant must have held a valid, State of Michigan Temporary Instructional Permit (TIP) for 30 days. Cost for the Driving Test is $65.

NOTE: A full road test will typically take 45-50 minutes. You must pass all four steps on the same day. If any one step is failed, you must reschedule your road test and pay the full testing fee again.
